How to have a memorable Bank holiday week-end
It’s getting close to the June Bank holiday week-end. The smell of BBQ’s is definitely in the air; thanks to the wonderful weather we are having. The Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon is taking place on Monday the 6th of June. Bloom is on in the Phoenix Park and no doubt everybody is planning things to do with family and friends this week-end.
However, spending time with family and friends can cause or highlight problems within your relationship. This can all come to the forefront when you are under pressure to entertain your guests.
Our counsellor Pat Grange gives some excellent advice on how to address issues before they start.
If you’re the type of person male or female that will usually start to bring up an unresolved issue when you have had a few drinks that inevitably turns into an argument. It would be so important to keep an eye on alcohol consumption and not spoil anyone’s day.
Plan your event ahead of time. Preparation takes the stress out of the day. Learn from past experiences or mistakes. If you promise to do certain tasks do them. Don’t leave everything for one person to do. As this can cause resentment.
Have a plan in place for children who may be attending your event. Assign one person to entertain the children while food is being cooked. A good tip is to feed the children first and then the adults can sit down and enjoy their meal.
Teamwork is so important. If you are both working as a team it will make your day go so much better. Support each other.
If there is a problem during the day. Do not confront your partner. Take a deep breath and relax. Go for a walk and calm down if needs be. Do not fight in front of your family and friends. Discuss the problem the following day in a constructive manner
It is a Bank holiday week-end. An extra day off work or school. Enjoy the time spent with your family and or friends. Make it a memorable occasion. A time to have fun as a couple or family. Make it a day to remember.
