Yvonne Jacobson Wins Prestigious Canon Handy Award at Teen-Between 20th Anniversary Gathering
Famous Relationships Counsellor and Psychotherapist Yvonne Jacobson was the proud recipient of the Canon Hand at the 20th Anniversary gala of teenage counselling service, Teen-Between.
The Canon Handy Award is presented biennially to someone who has made a very special contribution towards supporting relationships and families in Ireland by Relationships Ireland. After a voting process amongst Relationships Ireland staff of both internal and external candidates Yvonne Jacobson emerged the winner.
Ms. Jacobson has been one of the true all-stars of Relationships Ireland. She dedicated over a quarter of a century of her working career to working with the organisation, beginning as a volunteer counsellor all the way back in 1982. She then rose to the position of Clinical Manager and one of the most respected practitioners in Ireland during her extensive career.
Her reputation is second-to-none and it’s recognised both inside and outside the counselling rooms of Relationships Ireland. She was asked to sit on the Commission for the Family established by the Irish Government during her time here and delivered many, many talks at conferences for her professional peers as well. She also headed the research department of Relationships Ireland and was responsible for large and groundbreaking research.
Upon winning the Award, Yvonne Jacobson said; “I’m delighted to win this award and it’s a real honour. I had so many wonderful years working here and it’s very humbling to be recognised by my peers. The award will look very well in my living room!”
The award winner served Relationships Ireland as a Relationship Counsellor, Psychosexual Therapist, Supervisor and Clinical Manager, as well as playing a vital role both inside and outside the organisation with the development of training which was highly respected and sought after by other counselling agencies. She received the award from Denis Handy, who is the son of Canon Handy, the founder of Relationships Ireland.
The Award was presented on a gala evening celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Teen-Between; a teen counselling service dedicated to supporting teenagers whose parents are going through separation or divorce. The evening saw Teen-Between counsellors past and present join together in our counsellor headquarters in Dublin 2 to take a trip down memory lane and see what the future has in store for the service.
Relationships Ireland/Teen-Between CEO Elfrieda Carroll outlined to guests the history of Teen-Between; from humble beginnings in 1995 to today where mobile site optimisation has been launched to cater for the changing demands of service users.
There will be a series of events next year to mark the coming of age of Teen-Between. Keep an eye on www.teenbetween.ie for updates.
