Sun 9th Sept 2012, 9:30:am - 5:00pm
Alexander Hotel Dublin 2
Now more than ever relationships and marriages are under stress as many families have felt rocked to their foundations by the economic and financial uncertainties of recent years. Relationships Ireland is delighted to welcome Sinead Smyth and Dr. Robert Navarra, leading marriage and family therapists and sought-after trainers, to present a workshop for the public on building resilient and fulfilling relationships.
Drawing on nearly four decades of research by John Gottman PhD, a pioneer in relationship science, Sinead and Robert will describe the principles of sound marriages and relationships that survive and thrive no matter what adverse circumstances they face.
This workshop is ideal for couples seeking to build happy and satisfying relationships and respond effectively to the challenges of family life today. Join us for a day of practical relationship skills that will last a lifetime.
The Workshop Program
John Gottman, Ph.D. has studied and researched what makes marriages work for 40 years. This workshop is based on Dr. Gottman’s best-seller book, The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. If you have a strong relationship, this workshop is designed to strengthen your relationship with insights and tools to make it a great one. If your relationship is distressed, this workshop will provide a road map for repair.
What to Expect
You will learn what the research “Masters” can teach us about easy steps that increase romance, intimacy, and closer emotional connection. We will cover specific techniques and tools for managing conflict and avoiding the ”Four Horsemen”, patterns of conflict that erode relationships. Clear concepts for identifying relationship strengths and areas that need work will be covered, helping couples to understand why things go well when they do, and what leads to relationship difficulties. At the end of the workshop you will leave with a greater understanding of your relationship and exactly what it takes to repair, improve, and enhance the relationship. This is not a therapy group, and there is no group work or public disclosure. This is a psycho-educational workshop where couples will be presented with lectures on the research and on the relationship tools, then work privately on the exercises. Both presenters are Gottman Certified Therapists and are available to support couples one-to-one with the exercises. Topics covered include:
- Create Shared Meaning
- Make Life Dreams & Goals Come True
- Manage Conflict
- The Positive Perspective
- Share Fondness & Admiration
- Building Love Maps
