Why Marriage Preparation is so important
We spend years preparing to take the Leaving certificate. We spend years training and learning about performing at our best at our chosen sport, and yet we spend next to no time preparing for what will be the most significant role in our life. When we decide to marry someone, or live with our life partner we assume it will just ‘happen’. That somehow the magic of love will suffice and get us through life’s ups and downs. We here at Relationships Ireland know that not to be the case, hence our Marriage preparation course. We are a NON DENOMINATIONAL organisation. WE HAVE NO AGENDA apart from supporting ALL human beings. Our courses are private, not in groups. We have a 98% approval rating. Why? Because we often discuss the issues couples are reluctant to discuss themselves. We are there as a support and an encourager. So many of the couples I see say that the course was not what they expected - it was better! They also say the time flew by because they enjoyed it so much and, most importantly, learned about and spoke openly about so many issues of mutual concern. We all need to take relationships, particularly intimate relationships, more seriously. The pressure on everyone to-day is enormous. We all need help. Starting a life together as a couple gives us the opportunity of great happiness and fulfilment but also the potential of massive unhappiness. Taking 3 hours out to chat things through with Relationships Ireland will enhance every aspect of your life together. When you think of the time and money that will be spent on just one day is it too much to ask to spend 3 hours running over some fundamental issues? Because we are INDEPENDENT we don’t have a pre prepared script full of rules and regulations. Don’t forget the counsellor giving the course wants to enjoy the experience as well ! The course is for YOU. We want you to learn more about each other and to be able to share your love for each other physically and emotionally, and continue to do that for the rest of your lives. Things will change over the years. You/We will change over the years. You/We need to be able to work together as a team complimenting each other’s skills and talents. You/ We need to be open to change and finally to be prepared to and for change. Failure to prepare is preparing to fail !
