Stop the Clocks

We at Relationships Ireland are involved in helping everyone with their relationships. These relationships could be of a close and personal nature, such as a committed relationship or relationships with family and/or the wider community. Our counsellors will often see people who are having a poor relationship with themselves. For example they may have a poor opinion of themselves and therefore lack some personal self confidence. We can help in these circumstances.

One of the most shattering things that can happen to us is to lose someone close to us either through death, a divorce or a child leaving home. Suffering a significant loss, which at some point will happen to us all, often results in us re-evaluating what our life means, including the question ‘Does my life have any meaning?’.

To put that feeling into words is very difficult, but we all need to do just that. In the film ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ a beautiful poem by WH Auden is recited. It’s called ‘Stop the Clocks’. If you have suffered a significant loss recently and are struggling to put into words how you feel this poem may help you.

Loss comes in different forms but always necessitates us to examine our relationship with the person that has gone and we question ourselves, ‘What if?’ ‘If Only’, often resulting in an emotional crisis. It is at this point that sharing this with Relationships Ireland will help. Go well, always.
