Love is Blind
Most of us at some point in our lives wonder what life is all about. We spend a great deal of our time ‘searching’. Often we are not aware we are doing this and when we do realise what we have been doing we ask ourselves about the purpose of our lives. Our purpose, dear readers, is to give love and affection to another sentient being. I have deliberately not said another human being. Yes we should give love and affection to another human being but we must also give love and affection to other living creatures. The challenge is to keep giving our love when we don’t feel it - to keep faith with love.
I’m often asked in the counselling room ’how will I know I’m in love?’ This is a very difficult question to answer. One of my answers is; ‘When you forget about yourself’. Think about it. When we are having a very good time and enjoying others company we forget about ourselves. Look at young children. When they are happy playing they forget about themselves.
Clients also ask; ‘how do I listen properly’? The answer is the same. When you forget about yourself and only have eyes and ears for the other person then you are really listening. So how do we know we’re in love? Yes when we are ‘all a flutter’, but also when we are blind to our self and give ourselves heart and soul to another being. That gives our life meaning.
To love is to live,
And to love is to give,
Something more,
Than you have,
Ever Given Before.
